I Made This: Fabric Wreath

Some friends of ours just recently purchased their first home and I wanted to give or better yet make them something for their new home. *DING* the light went on when I remembered that I was wanting a reason to make one of these adorable fabric wreaths!

I used fabric I already had and cut them in to pieces that were about one inch wide by about 6 to 8 inches long. Then you just tie them one next to the other until you cannot see the wire frame underneath. Finally you fluff it and then I used pinking shears to make the ends a little more decorative and less frayed looking.

I made it just in plain white, as with the holidays being over I thought they could add a heart or two and then remove those and add a shamrock for St. Patty’s Day, etc. I like things that are both crafty AND versitile.

I Want to Make This: Custom Bokeh

One of my (many) hobbies is photography. I use my 50mm f1.4 lens most of the time, because it is great for low-light portraits of my family at home. This lens also has great depth-of-field: where the items in background and foreground of the subject fall away with a graceful blur.

When there is a highlight in the background or foreground of one of these extreme depth-of-field shots, a bokeh (pronounced ‘bo-keh’) appears. With little effort and some black paper board, you can change the shape of the bokeh, making my imagination run with endless possibilities.

The folks at www.diyphotography.net also point out that you can buy a Bokeh Masters Kit online, which is awesome for a busy mom like me, but I can see myself buying the kit and then making additional custom shapes for it.

Paper Feet

How flipping cute are these notebook socks, found via MocoLoco and available for purchase at AshiDashi?

The Notebook socks led me to these paper shoes by Le Creative Sweatshop. I think they are more art, and probably not wear-able, but nonetheless, beautiful and conceptually fantastic!

They make me want to brainstorm about a dozen or so possible paper projects. You know, things that you could use in everyday life, yet if made of paper, would be too fragile to actually use for their primary purpose. (Can you tell that I love this concept? I’ve been out of the art studio too long.)

Meanwhile, I wonder if I could knit a pair of notebook socks… Oh, internet, how you add to my ten-mile long craft wish-list.

Combine photography with crafts, and I’m usually a sucker.

I have seen a few of these on various crafty blogs, but Photojo makes it so easy with their Fotoclips!

The hardest part would be collecting all of the numbers and days of the week. Some people use images that they find online, but you know me: I would want to do it all myself.

I have made about a half a dozen sock monkeys in the past couple years and they are always a hit. I love giving them as gifts and have wondered if I attempted to make a little cloth doll, if they would turn out as cute.

I stumbled upon these Black Apple Dolls and the free pattern link from Martha Stewart today. What a cute handmade gift idea for a little girl! : )

Cool find on Etsy: Megan Auman

I stumbled upon the blog of Megan Auman about a month ago and she makes these really cool cozy cuffs. { I make my coffee at home, but I got take out a lot — I would invest in one of these!}

Megan resides in Jonestown, Pennsylvania, where she maintains a studio making sculpture and jewelry. Her work explores the floral patterns found in textiles and decorative ironwork. megan employs a torch welding technique to create her steel jewelry and sculpture.

I also really like this simple and elegant steel and silver leaf necklace.

SOUR ‘日々の音色 (Hibi no neiro)’ (Tone of everyday)

I don’t know how they did this, but the band SOUR coordinated and choreographed a group of their fans for this music video. ‘Each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam:’

How cool is that?! The mosaic parts remind me of the post-it stop-motion art project: ‘Deadline’.

I want to make this.

{ I get the feeling that the title of this post could be the title of every post I might write. That is why my project list is longer than my left arm! }

One thing I have been trying to work on is not accumulating any more craft supplies (even though it is my vice) and to try to make things out of what I have already. I think this fabric wreath is totally do-able and I want to try to make one for myself!

Growing up, our family often broke into song. Random, improvisational lyrics about the miscellaneous tasks that we were currently doing. Dad was the best at rhyming, and I think of him, often, as I annoy my kids with my tunes about putting on your shoes or brushing your teeth.
